The love of Leica cameras comes from a different breed of person - one who appreciates finer things, luxury items, and true craftsmanship.
The Leica is a luxury item that beckons to be used. You don't buy a Mazzaratti only to garage it in an airtight case for none but wankers to see. The Leica degrades if neglected.
I would like to propose that it's the mentality of the approach of photography - by removing many bells and whistles such as motor drive, metering, auto-advance, the internal mirror that is so distinctive when it slaps in an slr, autofocus and the like - you really concentrate on your image and the process of photography -
I bought into the hype at a young age and convinced myself that my life would not be complete without such a machine. I've never regreted my decision and I hope my photography is my legacy 50 years from now. |
